The Complete Research Paper Submission Checklist

Everything you need to check before hitting “submit”

Is Your Paper Ready for Submission?

You’ve analyzed the data, written the manuscript, and polished every paragraph. Now comes the moment of truth: submitting your research paper to a journal.

But here’s the reality: many well-written papers face desk rejection not because of weak science, but because of avoidable mistakes—formatting errors, missing elements, or failure to follow journal guidelines.

At MedResearch, we’ve reviewed hundreds of manuscripts before submission. We’ve seen what works and what gets papers rejected. This checklist compiles everything you need to verify before you click “submit.”

Use it. Check every box. Submit with confidence.

Phase 1: Before You Write a Single Word

✅ Journal Selection is Complete

  • You’ve identified 2-3 target journals that match your research scope
  • You’ve read recent articles from each journal to confirm fit
  • You’ve reviewed each journal’s aims and scope statement
  • You’ve considered impact factor, audience, and acceptance rates realistically

✅ Author Guidelines Are Downloaded

  • You have the instructions for authors saved and accessible
  • You understand word limits, formatting requirements, and reference style
  • You’ve noted any specific reporting guidelines (CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, etc.)
  • You’ve checked whether the journal requires a specific submission format

MedResearch Insight: Choosing the right journal before you write saves countless hours of reformatting later. Your target journal should shape your manuscript from the very first draft.
